Fire Initiative Election – Why it is important for East Montgomery County PDF Print E-mail
Andy Dill, Chamber PresidentFor the last six years I have had the honor of serving as President of the Community Chamber of Commerce of East Montgomery County and during that time I have witnessed many areas of success within our community.  Much of that success has been driven by the one cent sales tax that the East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID) collects on taxable sales within their jurisdictional boundaries.

Since their inception EMCID has continually recruited and brought new economic development opportunities to our community.   Coupled with their community development grant program they have impacted thousands of lives each year.  These efforts have been made possible by the one cent sales tax that we as purchasers pay on taxable items within EMCID’s boundaries.  Two of our local emergency services districts (Porter Fire and New Caney Fire) each collect an additional half-cent within their respective service boundaries.  Added to the state’s 6.25% this brings the total to 7.75% that we pay on taxable items.  EMCID has recently authorized and called for a half-cent sales tax election that will bring the total collected to 8.25% just like everyone pays in all the surrounding areas.  The election will be held on November 3rd with early voting the two weeks prior.

New Caney Athletic Booster Club to sell Texas Bowl tickets as fundraiser! PDF Print E-mail
Recently the Texas Bowl introduced its new High School Booster Club Fundraiser Program. The New Caney Athletic Booster Club (NCABC) became the first organization to sign up for the program. The program is designed to raise money for schools’ booster clubs while also deepening the Texas Bowl’s ties to the local community. NCABC has access to tickets, which we are selling as a means of raising money for our  school’s athletic program. Tickets will range in price from $30 to $50.  By joining the fundraising program and becoming a partner of the Texas Bowl, NCABC will receive passes for their coaching staff to attend a Texas Bowl team practice, a question-and-answer session with a member of the Houston Texans coaching staff, passes to the Texas Bowl Coaches’ Luncheon and FCA Breakfast, 2009 Texas Bowl gear and recognition in the 2009 Texas Bowl Program. We are competing against other Houston area schools for bragging rights as the top fundraising school of 2009. The school that raises the most money will receive 60 pregame sideline passes to the Texas Bowl, 200 Texas Bowl t-shirts and on-field recognition of their accomplishments. The game will be held December 31, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Reliant Stadium.  This years’ game will tentatively be Navy and a Big 12 team.     Please let me know if you need any further information! Thank you,  Brandy SmithSoccer Rep / Community RelationsNew Caney Athletic Booster Club713-875-8552  Cell800-458-5160  Fax
