My Town. My Job. My Voice!

The Chamber’s Board of Directors has approved becoming a partner in the My Town. My Job. My Voice! campaign and we invite each of you to join this campaign as well.

Over the last year or so the oil and gas industry in our nation and in particular in our Gulf Coast region has come under attack.  The oil spill in the Gulf was a terrible thing and the affects of that spill will be felt for some time, however the reaction out of Washington will most likely have an even greater negative economic impact on our region.

We are pleased to partner with the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce and several other Chambers in the Gulf Coast region who have begun a grass roots effort to keep jobs in our region.

You may be asking why our Chamber is concerned about the oil and gas industry and why we are getting involved in this campaign? That is indeed a fair question.  When you consider all the products that are “by-products” of oil and gas then it becomes easy to understand our concern.  Here are just a few examples of some of those products:

Plastics                        Inks                             Tires                            Pharmaceuticals

Fabrics                         Asphalt                        Cooking                      Electricity

iPods                           Cell Phones                 Computers                   Fishing rods

House paints               Carpeting                    Kerosene                     Furniture

Roofs                          Toothpaste                  Vinyl flooring             Golf balls

Footballs                     Lipstick                       Lotions                        Nail polish

These are products that we have access to every day or may even use every day.  Over the next several months and on into the future we will be sharing additional information with you on this campaign.  Please visit the “My Town” website at www.mytownmyjobmyvoice.org to learn more.
