Chamber Annual Banquet Kicks Off to Success in 2010 PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday January 9, 2010 the Community Chamber of Commerce of East Montgomery County celebrated their success during 2009 at the Annual Banquet with a “Tailgate” theme.  The theme was selected to honor outgoing Chairman, Dr. Jon Kramer, who played college football at Baylor University.

During the evening Dr. Kramer was surprised when presented with his college football jersey that his wife Ann had just received from a family member, where it had been all these years.  A slide show ran during the evening showing old photos of Dr. Kramer during his football days as well as photos of many local athletes that have gone on to play college or pro sports.

In keeping with the “Tailgate” theme, the tables were decorated with sports items and table sponsors decorated their tables using their favorite team’s colors and memorabilia.  Guests were encouraged to show their team spirit and wear their team’s jerseys. The more casual dress code was appreciated by everyone since the temperature ran in the mid twenties that night.

The festivities included some friendly competition among the local dignitaries as Chamber President Andy Dill called on local elected officials to compete in the bean bag toss.

U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady showed his sportsmanship and took 1st place over competitors Commissioner Ed Rinehart, Sheriff Tommy Gage, Judge Cara Wood, Judge Kathy Hamilton, and Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce President Mike Byers.   Kenny Shortsleeve won the ladder toss competition by taking on Angela Allen of Allied Power Mart, Constable Rowdy Hayden and EMCID Director Leon Cubillas.

The Hometown Hero Award was awarded to Porter Fire Chief, Jody Binnion. The Small Business of the Year award went to Trout Tire Center, Inc. The Large Business of the Year was awarded to the Hofbrau Restaurant.

At the conclusion of the evening’s program the outgoing team, the 2009 Board and Chairman, were surprised when a cooler was dumped over their heads during one last photo.  Luckily for them, it only contained confetti!!

The Annual Banquet is a fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce.  Our event was very successful this year.  We could not have done it without the support of our chamber members and other area businesses that contributed to the event.  Thank you so much!

Thank You for your support in making this event so successful!
